Video of Interviews with People
I constructed a research video in which I asked people questions regarding the consumption of short films as well as their political opinions on the subjects surrounding my own film. I paired up with Noah to complete this task, here is my completed plan for the video.

When I began filming, I found that a lot of people refused to be on camera, so I took note of their answers to use in my conclusion.

The Importance of Endings Most films have a beginning, middle and end. Beginnings set things up and hook the audience, so, justifiably, people stress the importance of them. Endings are often overlooked when talking about the importance of structure, however, a bad ending never fails to ruin an entire film for the viewer. The Power of Subtext

What is Subtext? Subtext is any content of a creative work which is not announced explicitly by the characters, but is implicit or becomes something understood by the observer of the work as the production unfolds. Subtext can also be used to imply controversial subjects without specifically alienating people from the fiction, often through use of metaphor. Subtext is content underneath the dialogue. Under dialogue, there can be conflict, anger, competition, pride, showing off, or other implicit ideas and emotions. Subtext is the unspoken thoughts and motives of characters — what they really think and believe. Subtext is also a frequently used method of subtly inserting social or political commentary into fiction. In What Ways Does Your Short Film Use, Develop or Challenge Forms and Conventions of Existing Media Products? Forms, codes and conventions are important to consider and understand when constructing a film, particularly an amateur one. Firstly, there is a reason as to why they are conventional in the first place: they confer a sense of familiarity on the audience. This familiarity is important to help the audience understand something. They can work as short-cuts; by employing something the audience already understands it allows you to build on them to create your own original work. For example, take genre conventions. If you're creating a sci-fi film, you will likely include settings and props etc. that are easily identifiable to the sci-fi genre, such as space or aliens etc. This immediately allows the audience to identify the film as a sci-fi film, therefore, they're almost immediately familiar with the landscape on which your film is set (eg. alien or far away).
